I think you should buy 2 baby name books and each take one. Each of you should make a list of names that you like, then compare and discuss them. Maybe you'll both find one you like that way.
If you guys can't compromise on this and find a name that you both like then maybe you shouldn't be having a kid together. It's only going to get tougher once the baby comes to compromise and meet everyone's needs. If your husband is that stubborn and rigid and unwilling to compromise, I am afraid for you.
Maybe you can use Aubrey and/or Samantha as middle names.
Good luck!

I think this is much more than a name dilemma...I think you have huge issues in your marriage.
I have a feeling that your husband is confrontational.
There is a great book called The Dance Of Anger. Read it.
Anyhow. It sounds like neighter of you are budging. Didn't you guys discuss names before you got married? There is going to have to be a compermise here. And each of you need to understand it. And be open to find names that you both agree with.
I like both names. I understand how a person teasing us can make us feel a certian way. It is time for compermise.
Get a names book and work on names. I sure hope that this doesn't cause a life time of arguing between the two of you.
Name her Samantha and call her Sammy or Samie
Or Aubry Samantha.......and each parent can choose what to call the child. That for sure whould be difficult for a child.
I suggest your start fresh....
Abby
Sarah
Amilia
Emily
Andrea
Lillith
Rosie
Bre
Breanna
Bailey
I have heard Aubrey only as a boys name. but it is one of those names that can go either way,

Well, I don't like either name. Aubrey sounds harsh and just not pretty and Samantha seems dated. I would just come up with something else. It has to be a compromise. Each of you should make a list and then compare them and then go from there. Or if you plan to have more kids use Aubrey and save Samantha for your next or vice versa.

Sounds to me like you have "bigger problems" than picking out names for YOUR CHILDREN. How can you both be so stubborn about something you created together???? GROW UP ~ and act like PARENTS (adults). Discuss this in a civilized way ~ come to a consensus. Your child will thank you for it the rest of her life.
Ever hear of compromise ~ or brainstorming to come up with names YOU BOTH LIKE. This is your CHILD ~ her name should be something you both like. Each of you should write down 25 names and then start crossing them off. Maybe Samantha or Aubrey could be her middle name. (not used much but still part of her name).
Make sure the MIDDLE NAME and LAST NAME go with the FIRST NAME you pick and that the INITIALS aren't something bad.
And don't pick a name that other kids or teachers can't pronounce or that can be teased by kids into something else.

he probably has a reason for hating the name Aubrey so find out why, probably an ex's name or something. you two should look at different names together and compromise, or like others said, Samantha Aubrey would be a cute name but it will probably end up in you calling her Aubrey and your husband calling her Samantha. so i would try to find another name

You two seriously need to compromise. You should at least consider Samantha (don't let the bully determine the name of your child!) and it wasn't nice of him to call your names retarded. I like both names (Samantha is my name, and Aubrey is beautiful). Try Samantha Aubrey. I really liked the idea of the two of you making separate lists, too. You could also pick out names that sound like Samantha and Aubrey, like Amanda, Amy, Salamanca, or Amber. Or try family names, like your grandmother's middle name with his grandmother's middle name.
Good Luck! I hope I could help!

Well if you want to sink to his level tell him samantha is retarded and he can get over it. Or: Both of you give up your names. Go through a baby book, pick a name out together. OR: let your parents name the baby. Your parents and his can get together and pick out some names. You and your stubborn husband can choose the name! Good Luck and God Bless!

Your husband has had this name picked out for a long time, and obviously it means something to him. Try compromising.
Samantha Aubrey would be a beautiful name.
You shouldn't let the name of someone who picked on you years ago determine the name of your child. Try and be sensitive to what he is thinking.
