What is your major going to be? Have you decided yet? Generally if it's in Engineering / Science / Math areas, foreign languages are not as important as if you were majoring in Liberal Studies / Humanities. However, this is totally the decision of the university you plan to attend. Why don't you call a university academic advisor or ask your high school counselor if s/he knows? If the universities are competitive, the more you take in high school, the better chance you have of being accepted.

Also, do you have different types of diplomas? In Texas, we have 3 levels of high school diplomas and students graduating under the distinguished diploma must take 3 years of the same foreign language. Most students graduating distinguished are college bound students who apply and are accepted to the better universities.

It sounds like you are a good student with lots of potential. Best of luck to you as you finish your high school career and proceed to the university.

A lot of colleges do like it, and many require it; unfortunately, the College Board site is down right now, or I could have told you about the requirements at the schools you are looking at. Even if it isn't required, a language is a very useful thing to have in life. I majored in business, got an MBA and a Ph.D. in business, and am now a business professor, and I have never regretted the five years of French I took in high school, let alone the other languages I picked up later on.

Aloha John.

Some colleges require students to take a foreign language to graduate. Does your college have a foreign language requirement? Have you already fulfilled that requirement? Will another year of foreign language be beneficial to your career aspirations?

In my opinion, taking advanced levels of a foreign language is always a valuable asset. It will be useful for careers in the business industry. Talk to your academic adviser to ask for advice. You may consider asking, "How will taking another year of foreign language impact your college curriculum?" Hope this helps!

Best wishes!

Ceratinly, taking the 3rd year is a good option, but,if you think you're ready for something new,why not?Besides, you have Latin,so any of the Roamance Languages should be a cinch if you decide to persue them later.TL

these days having the atleast 3 credits of language is crucial. it sets you apart from other prospective students. where i live we are recommended to take 5 years. it looks very good to colleges trust me :) go for atleast 3 years.

Two years is important. Beyond that much less so. Take an additional math or lab science instead.
