Toshiba, Dell and HP have cost effective laptops.
Although I've heard Dell and HP have really horrible customer service. If you are a member of costco, get your HP there, costco provides a 2 year warentee for free. I havn't had any issues with my HP Pavillion dv6000t so far and it has been about a month since i've got it.
Do NOT get a GMA 950, Ati Radeon 1150 or a Nvidia 6150 graphics cards, these are SHARED graphics cards and have massive problems, only good for basic computing.

I would pick any of them I like hp cuz they have alot of laptops for lower prices but sony would be the choice i would make
Now when you look at the laptop specs they throw alot at u so I will make it simple:
look for Intel Core 2 Duo processor
OS- Vista
RAM/memory-at least 2GB
Nvidia Geforce 8400M or larger number for your video card
nothing less then 80GB hard drive you get riped off for less then that
that just about does it so i hope this helps

there is couple of issues you may desire to take attention. First, are you going to apply for private or employer, or perhaps the two. 2nd maximum excessive is the time-honored of CPU it somewhat is the value of the pc... producers that are good.(centruno, intels, highend-IBM) those specific producers are selection duriable and might final a protracted time... producers like AmD, Celeron are the low end... yet nevertheless effiecent and might proform the comparable job. immediately the numbers run from one million.5 - 2.6 ok.. it somewhat is the numbers that be certain the value of your comp. for example, my workstation is working on 2.4K. it is especially quickly... presently they have labtops that would actual out around 3.3-4K for low priced yet ok labtop, i might problemly look at intels and AmDs. then you definately elect to look on the reminiscence area those numbers feels like this "60G complicated" ...forty-60G is an stunning source of area. for example, "take one action picture and you elect to obtain, avg video clips is approximately 2.4-2.6G of reminiscence... Do the mathematics... and you will have 30 video clips on one lab actual...yet regularly such as you wont... final yet no longer much less, be certain you elect the particular upload-ons... for example CD/DVD author, Floppy, And on the spot mouse... etc.. you get the element. My suggestion to you is purchase a labtop that mets your guy or woman lifestyles... spend between seven hundred-1100K on one.... yet do no longer exceed 1100.. for the reason which you need to be throwing money away on issues you somewhat dont' choose.... Piece out ... and robust good fortune

Just go for an Apple Mac - slightly more expensive but you will never regret it - plus you will be pleased that it is more value for money.
