1996 Toyota Camry LE I4... not that it makes a difference i don't think.

When im driving down the road... i keep hearing these loud, extremely annoying whistling-kinda noises...

It sounds, to me atleast, like the noise is coming from the right rear of the car.... my first thought was that either it was a brake pad or something was grinding something like an axle part or something in the wheel/axle department...

I dont think its a brake pad or anything, because first of all... i just got mine replaced less then a year ago... secondly, it squeaked while i was driving.. not braking.

I dont think its something directly related to the spinning of the wheels either, because whether im going... 65 on the highway, or 30 down a street... the squeaking doesnt happen louder, faster, or necessarily more often...

im at a lose, any1 got any ideas? i got the day off tomorrow so toss some ideas at me and what i should do.

Does the noise go away when you apply the brakes? Or change pitch?Does turning and shifting the cars weight from side to side make noise more intense? If noise stops when you LIGHTLY apply the brakes it is most likely a brake pad noise,if it is a grinding noise you would hear grinding when you apply the brakes. If noise is more of a typical squeal/whistlishish noise that goes away when light app. of brakes your pads need brake quiet applied to the back of pads and in the slide points. If noise seems to change when doing "s" turns or shifting cars weight while moving could be a bearing which you should be able to detect even by safely jacking each wheel of the ground and spinning the wheel and listening for rough sound. Good luck hoper you find it

since you will be off jack the car up in the back and spin the tire with your hand and see if it still makes this noise. it sounds like something came loose in your brake drum. also your drum might be bad or it can something loose. wants you jack the car up and spin the tire with your hand you will find a solution.

if it were me id have to pull the wheels off it of it and check the brakes to be sure, after that if they are ok,you may have to take it to a shop and let them diagnose it,noises like that can be hard to locate sometimes, usually simple to repair, but hard to find, good luck on it.

Just because they were replaced less than a year ago doesnt mean they wont squeek. especially if it wasnt done right or there is another problem. get them looked at and go from there.
