One of the best places in the world to be in!
Its safe, clean, lots of shopping and great food from everywhere around the world.
Almost everyone speaks english yet it has enough of asia culture.
Lots of greenery yet very high tech.
Great transportation. Lots of entertainment from walks in the gardens to hard clubbing till 5am in the morning.
Great place to commute to most any part of the world.
It just a great place to live in.

Singapore is a really nice to be. I really enjoyed my time there. What is nice about Singapore is that English is one if not the official language. Also the country is really clean and safe. The food is awesome. The chicken rice dish is great. Economy is okay but just understand that there is kind of a global recession going on. I think an American would adjust quite well in Singapore.

In terms of culture, there is enough western culture (food, tv, movies, etc.) that it is comfortable being there. Also, it's nice and clean and the crime rate is low. Plus, English is widely spoken so that's a big help. The only downside is that it's very hot, but since Singapore is close to the equator, that can't be helped.
BTW, in regards to the comments of one of the previous respondents, Singapore is an independent country and is not part of China. Some of the ppl there are of Chinese descent. Others are of Malay, Tamil, Indian, European, etc. descent.

Depending on individual... example:
1) are you a smoker?
2) are you rich (you cannot die of hunger here, but you may die of proverty)
3) What is your stand on taxes and its policies
4) Which profession?
5) etc
There are advantages as well as disadvantages and these "X"tages differ according to individuals. On the overall in my opinion, its good to look at, a good place to holiday for the short term. Living in the long term is however different.

Yes....when you still have the ability to work. As in Singapore you need to pay for almost eveything, even your fully paid Television/Radio, houses, car, you still need to pay license or tax every year if you want to use them.
Singaporean called it a "Pay And Pay" nation.

My best friend told me it was. We are from Texas. I love China and he lived in Singapore for a year.
