Oh boy if you think life is hard now , just go ahead and see how hard it will be after that. Are you really sincere or is this a joke. If it's not , Do not even think about doing that . You need to start at least reading books. If you don't have a dad find a mentor. Seek help, any kind of help. How old are you ? Five.

use a hose to put down the tank, pull it up and measure how much of the hose is wet from the gasoline, my father does this cause he has a 75 Buick and the gage don't work
by the way the lighter might ignite the gas causing a fire

Much better to toss a match in. If the match goes out right away, your tank is full. If the vapours ignite and explode your vehicle, you were low on gas.

Seriously, no offense, but that could possibly be the stupidest thing to do in that particular situation!!! Instead, use a flashlight, or take another car if possible.

Nothing would happen. Feel free to light up and peer into your tank as much as your heart desires.

well, if gas was there, it would explode. the fumes r probably still there, in which case it would explode. i would use a flashlight. r if i knew i was outta gas, i would take another car, and bring gas home in a can.

Refiling the tank would be the least of your problems if you used that method to check.
