You'd need a transmission cooler installed. It would depend
on the weight of the boat. Most boats weigh more than a
loaded U-Haul. I suggest putting the boat in storage near
the launch site you intend to use. Less distance towing
would be best. A Grand Prix would have enough power to
pull an 18' boat but if you do it too much you could blow a
transmission seal.($300-400 fix)
Summary: It can be done but its risky.

Check to see if your car has a frame under it or is a unibody style of construction. If there is a frame, you will be able to install a trailer hitch and not worry too much about warping the body of the car while towing a light load. If there is no appreciable frame to use, you don't want to attempt this. It is hard on a vehicle to regularly tow a trailer so if you plan on using your boat a lot, it's still a better idea to get a 1/2 ton or SUV that can handle the job properly.

I go to Staines Sailing Club and during the winter the boat have to be taken away. My Dad has a Mazda RX8 but can still pull his boat.
If you do decide to get a boat, make sure that the trailer is properly fixed on the back of the car and that you have a number plate on the back of the trailer so it can be seen. Make sure that the backlights can be seen and if not you can get some for the trailer. You won't be able to drive as fast which is kind of obvious because of the weight the car will be carrying.
Good Luck with it all!

An 18' boat could weigh from 400 lbs to 2000 lbs not including the motor.
Yes, you can tow a boat with a car. How far & how many times with out damage to the car will depend on how often you tow it & how heavy the boat is.
Remember the two happiest days of a boat owners life.
The day he buys it & the day he >>>>>> it.
Good luck.

That is pushing it. I pull my 16 ft boat with my honda mini van which has more horses than a gran prix. I would not want to pull anything any bigger than that. You need to get a smaller boat or go find a truck.

You can, BUT do you really want to? It might be better to buy a 4X4 SUV if you are going to be pulling the boat in and out of the water. some of the boat ramps get a little slick and steep. It would be easier on a truck or SUV, but you may get away with it. Good luck. Just take it easy, on the car or you'll be needing a new car too. good luck.
