There are a lot of Asians living in my area, mostly Vietnamese and Chinese. So naturally the city is dominated by Asian restaurants and bars. The other night I decided to try a new bar out. I could see that I would be the only non-Asian there but I didn't think that would be a problem. But when I walked in, it was like all of a sudden everyone was staring at me and possibly talking about me in Chinese. I felt like I was an unwanted presence there. I just got a lot of looks that were less than friendly. I got one drink and left because I was really uncomfortable. It's too bad because it was a nice place. Is it rude for me to go to Asian bars or am I reading the situation wrong? I mean, I never made an Asian man uncomfortable when he was in a mostly white bar, I assumed it worked the other way as well.

Ignoring the fact you are Old Nick, no, it isn't rude but you must approach it as a sociological experiment. Only after you have gained some acceptance can you aspire to 'higher' things (beneath the equator).

No, it is not rude of you in any way. Still, in some situations groups of people may wish to be by themselves (such as a family or as you suggest a group of one race in a certain place), but that does not make you rude.

Muslim Barbie- YOU are a racist! If I said that muslim men tend to speak gibberish, kill and torture others, and justly keep their women covered, YOU would have no problem calling Me one also.

Once you have made few friends there, you wouldn't want to go to any other bar. It's works better than when an Asian visits a white bar.

Welcome to the world of all minority in US of A.

I grew up in the Midwest. When I walk in the an all white frat type bar, they all look at me like I should get out.

So naturally, I did the same thing you did. It is sad and unfortunate.

Or Maybe, you're the first white dude that walked into their bar.
