This book is one of the saddest books I have ever read in my life. It's a true story, and it's about a little boy who gets abused by his mother. I don't want to tell you any more and ruin the experience for you. But I will tell you to have some Kleenex nearby, because it will break your heart. It is so sad you will definately cry!

I've read it and the other two that he wrote about being a teenager, then an adult. The first is the hardest to read, they are all well written, and will make anyone think, and it broke my heart to read of some of the things this boy endured. I would recommend reading it, but it is not light reading.. it is a true and down right sad story about child abuse. I would still way it is worth reading, all three of them are really.

I have personally read A Child called it. It was an ok book if you could get past all the disgusting stuff that happened to him growing up. I don't think that he personally means to be disgusting. I think he was just trying to show you what it was like growing up in those times. He shows you the bad and at the end of the story you see that something good can come out of something THAT bad. That no matter what your situation is.,. God can make something good out of it.

I have read this, and The Lost Boy, and A Man Called Dave. All three are well written, and definitely worth the read, but A Child Called It is gut wrenching in that it is so shocking that anyone abuses a child.

I read it, its a pretty short read. Its not for everyone as it is pretty sad.
I personally thought his bothers book Richard Pelzer was better. He gave more insight into his own feelings(guilt, fear, etc) Where David Pelzer seemed to go for a lot of shock and horror at what the mother was like, Richard told it more as a journey of discovery, and understanding(of himself, David and the family)
I suggest reading both books. It kind of shows how the abuse of one child can affect the entire household. They also recollect certain memories quite differently, which gives insight into how one person can remember the same thing completely different than another.
The only confusing part of reading both books is David and Richard Pelzer use fake names for the brothers, and it takes a bit of deciphering to figure out who is who in each book.

I read it. It is frightening to read how horribly this boy was treated. But, and I only heard this as a rumor, some people say the author exaggerated his suffering for dramatic effect. Don't know much about this theory. I recommend, "Nobody Nowhere" a true story about a girl who has autism. She followed it up with a book "Somebody Somewhere." She is the real deal and it's not all about suffering.

A Child Called "It" by David Pelzer 1993
I have to confess, I've not read the book, however, here is an extensive list of reviews by people that have read it, I hope that will be OK.
……….‘A Child Called It’ follows David Pelzer’s early years as he relives his story, and his struggles to fight against his mother. His school finally realise what is happening and he is taken away from his mother which is where the tale finishes. I say ‘tale’ but this is a true story which took place during the 1970’s in California. It was one of the 3 worst cases of child abuse in Californian history. More…….

“I just finished reading the tragic story of a young boys struggle to survive. I am reading this story for a class that I am taking and have not put it down since I opened it. While reading, all I could feel is ANGER. I could not believe the things Dave had to endure. I found myself in complete shock and in tears. This story has open my eyes to the sad reality of "child abuse". I am studying to become a teacher, and am aware that I will be in contact with students who have stories like Daves. It is my responsibility to make myself aware of these harsh siuations and am determined to do whatever I can do in order to prevent a story like Daves to occur again.”

It's a look inside the abusive relationship between Dave and his mother (she was an alcoholic and manic depressive). It's so sickening what some parents do to their kids. It is a good book, but very depressing. Plus I don't advise it for the squeamish. Frankly I read it once and that was enough for my memory's nerves.

One of my friends read the book and i heard it was a good read.
It is about a boy who is abused by his mother horribly.
The man who wrote the book was supposed to have based this on his child hood,
but then if i can remember correctly,
they were proven to be false and that they were not actually based on true events.
and that they did not really happen to him.

Yes Ive personally read it and i like this book alot.. its about a kid whose mom abused him otherwise known as child abuse. his mom wasnt always that way but she slowly changed. she made him starve and inhale ammonia and hit him very badly and tons of other things you couldnt even dream of.. nobody would do anything about it. he was an outsider in his own family. its sad. his case was the 3rd worst case of child abuse. its sad but you oughta read it.
Happy reading.
