What did you find the most difficult part of 1L to be? I'm starting law school...in oh...2 days. Any tips or heads ups would be greatly appreciated!

Kokowawa: That's too bad you had family troubles. But lawyers don't ruin families. Families ruin their own families by the choices they make. Lawyers are just the voice. I give everyone who answers my questions thumbs ups though.

Logical thinking (especially causation), distinguishing holdings from dicta, etc. -- that's the big weed-out. Sadly, most university graduates today have never gotten around to learning how to think -- and how to think is really what 1L is all about. As I remember 1L, former philosophy majors practically sailed through that year. If you are still in college, I very strongly recommend you take some philosophy courses. By philosophy, I don't mean some trendy nonsense along the lines of "postmodern deconstructionist views of existentialism", but very basic, hardcore, nuts-and-bolts, honest-to-goodness philosophy courses: logic and argument, etc. I would even go so far as to see an advisor in the Philosophy department, tell him you are going to law school and see what he will recommend.

You will never understand until you are almost through your first year..... unless ofcourse you already know 16th century law. Remember, 90% of all law students drop out their first year because they don't know what the %^&* they're doing, but that is everybody the 1st year. Remember this phrase & you will be okay:

first year they scare you to death.....
second year they work you to death.....
third year they bore you to death.....
