basically, Oedipus fulfills the oracle of delphi's prophecy that he would murder his father and marry his mother. He's left to die of exposure on a cliffside by his parents, in order to negate the prophecy. But of course, he's saved and raised into a handsome youth by a friendly shepherd. Along his journey back to his parents, Oedipus meets the Sphynx; she asks him her famous riddle (what walks on four legs in the morning, two at noon and three in the evening?) and when he answers (Man) she dies. This feat is what allows him to replace his father as King and (unknowingly) marry his mother. He kills his dad (by mistake) with a discus to the head and when his mum finds out she's been having kids with her own son (who's by that time a well loved ruler), she hangs herself. Oedipus blinds himself and is led into the dark forests by his daughter, where he is consumed by the Furies (spirits of inexorable law).

you mean Oedipus? Oedipus didn't grow up with his natural parents.he was adopted.when he was a bit bigger he learned from an oracle that he was gonna kill his father and marry his mother.not knowing he was adopted he tried to prevent that by running away.while on the road, he entered this discus throwing contest and accidentally cut off one of the spectator's head which turned out to be his real dad, the king(he still didn't know that). he somehow managed to replace that king and married the widowed queen Jocasta, Oedipus' real mother.i believe they had marital bliss.it's insane. the truth was only found out later.Oedipus blinded himself and Jocasta hung herself.it's sucha tragedy.
