Hero-worship will go on and criminals would get elected and they will make corruption attractive to others and corruption will thrive. Even if good number of right thinking persons come out you cannot rule out those who are criminal minded and come out to vote for their heroes.
The solution lies in amending the constitution.
Make the following changes.
Disqualify them once a serious charge is framed.
Do not allow them to fight an election on the basis of their likings. There should be a lottery system as to who will fight from which constituency.
Once proven guilty they should be hanged, in other words, those who are leaders the quantum of punishments should be doubled, and their assets should be taken away, the asset they built after becoming the leader.
Unless some measures of unpopular kind are taken corruption cannot be removed.

Corruption starts from top & in order to make a corruption free society we have to start cleaning this from the top. On the top are politicians placed by us by elected then to the legislature from where they reach the top & start governing us. We the people of India Are sentimental fools who forget the background of the candidate for whom we vote & go by the political party to which he represent. The aim of the political parties is just to come to power & in order to achieve this they can go to any extend. The candidate with criminal background are being given election tickets by these political parties in order to get man power of gondas to win the election with good number of majority. The people of India never come out in good number to elect the right candidate during election & a candidate with criminal background get elected by even a thin margin of votes . If you check the % of pooled votes in the various elections till date both for union as well for state elections this has never gone beyond 50 %. If at least 80% of the total number of eligible people of India come out & vote for their rights no such candidate with criminal background will ever get elected & be a part of the government in the union or in any state. Once these people of criminal background are not on the top position of the government & only honest people govern us the question of corruption will not be there at any level. This looks like a good dream or a Hindi Film story but this is the only way out in a democracy. Indulging in violence & killing of corrupt & people of criminal back ground who govern us is not a democratic but a military solution.
