really worried that by giving love they are losing part of themselves?

its more of a fear of being disappointed either it being: heart break, dishonesty, fear that the person might turn out to the worst...
sometimes if a person grew up in a broken home, or saw a lot of tragedy in their own parents as a child, it has a lot to do with their future.

im afraid of commitment, i guess im reallay a kind of person who doesnt like anything to hold them back from being spontaneous, i love change, i love travel, i hate being in the same place for too long, i love adventure, an fun an life, an the idea of long term commitments sounds like a cage to me. im sure other people have other reasons, but for me its the fear that in the future ill want to do soemthing, an i cant. that i will be strung by obligation so my life is planed out, no longer spontaneous, an my adventurous heart gets lonely as i repeat the same routine. and i dunt want to make commitments cause im afraid i might hurt someone if i cent take it anymore.
there are bad reasons, and gud reasons to be afraid of commitment, selfish reasons, an selfless reasons. just cus im afraid of it now, doesnt mean ill never want it, an who knows, maybe being afraid of it, means i have an understanding of whut a big deal comiting to soemone reallay is ♥

I say it's the fear of being linked in with that one person. They're afraid that they're jumping in to fast or if that person is really someone they want to be with. Or its because they hate the feeling of being tied down to that person, because that person wants to spend so much time with you that you begin to be uneasy around them because EVERYONE needs their space. Even in marriages.

people who are afraid of commitment is people which they wont to get serious in their relationship...they are afraid they might hurt the other party...

I don't think so, I think they just want to leave an opening, so they can leave if times get tough, or something better comes along.
