I was exactly the same way, I was terrified something would happen to my son and he wouldn't be able to breathe if I put him down to sleep. I actually got to the point where I couldn't sleep unless he was sleeping on my chest. I would suggest purchasing a monitor called Bebe Sounds Angelcare monitor. It is a monitor that comes with a device that detects motion while your baby is sleeping, if no movement is detected for 30 seconds an alarm sounds waking you up. It will detect even the slightest breaths of deep sleep and will help you feels more secure. Something that also helped me was having a co-sleeper, similar to a bassinet but it attaches to your bed so your little one is right next to you but without the hazard of you rolling over your baby. Also want you to know that what you are feeling is extremely common and most moms (at least 1st time moms) will go through this. If this does continue or if it gets worse and starts to affect you emotionally, talk to your doctor because you could be suffering from post-partum anxiety/depression. I was like that until my son was about 5 months old. I didn't know I was suffering from post-partum depression. I wish you the best of luck with your new little one and I hope all these moms can help put you at a little ease.

The baby wont start rolling until about 3 and a half months or so and by then should be able to move its head around pretty well by them selves. If this doesn't help comfort you a little you can by a wedge thing that will keep the baby in the position you lay it in. Try reading What To Expect The First Year or any development materials the hospital gave you. The Diaper bag they gave you is probably stuffed with that kind of stuff

Welcome to Motherhood ..

So u are scared .... hmmm ...

Take precautions ...
1.) get a bedlamp in ur room and put baby in a bassinet 4 in one type very close to ur bed .. u need bedlamp so that u can just have a look at baby whever u feel to without getting up or disturbing ur baby with more light ..

2.)Let baby sleep on his/her back ...

3.)Its impossible for a baby to roll over this age ... but u know .. A Egg can fit a bottle when atmosphere changed ...so just be conscious not OVER conscious though ..

4.) get sensors that help u wake up when babycries or just coos ..

5.) As u might be breast feeding and its must for babies that young age u feel tired and sleepy .. added to this situation if keep worrying about things which has less chances to happen u cant handle him the next day ..

6.) Think of some alternative to u to check ur baby whenever possible .. alternative like baby's dad or grand ma or grand pa .. if possible ..

7.) Every baby sleeps like a 'baby' first few weeks ...so i dont think there is a need for u to worry ...

All the thoughts floating around ur head or fears all are part of ur postpartum symptoms and ur Anxiety to give ur baby the BEST part of u ...

These are all like tides in the ocean compared to th days coming up where u need to really WORRY ... lol ...

U are sailing in same "Mother SHIP" .... dont let ur energy go down thinking of things that are unnecessary .. relax ... relax ...

As u know .. PAST is BEAUTIFUL ... PRESENT is WONDERFUL and FUTURE is HOPEFUL ... :)

U keep rsting and relaxing so ur breasts keep milking for ur baby sucking .. lol .. :)) nice work huh ....

I hope this helped u .. cheer up mom ..

BEST of LUCK ..

My son is now 3 mos old and the best thing I can say... time will help. For the first several nights I could hardley sleep I was so scared... this is normal. Buy one of those triangle wedge things to keep her on her back and make sure not to use any pillows or blankets in her crib. I ended up buying a bassinet so that I could have him right by my bed (which by the way he is still sleeping in) so I could keep an eye on him. Several times per night I would wake up and put my hand on his little tummy to make sure he was still breathing... it gets better I promise =) Hang in there!

Try buying an anit-roll pillow ($20-$30 at babystores) which you position on either side of them to stop them rolling and smothering themselves. Or you could try, which is what I did, roll up two cloth nappies/small bunny rugs and position them either side of baby to do the same thing. (position from under arms down)
DO NOT use cot bumpers and quilts or pillows as this contributes to SIDS. (they can get tangled in them)
DO position the feet at the end of the cot and tuck the blankets under the mattress and around baby but only up to armpits/shoulders. Try and use only cotton materials and not heavy ones like quilts
If it is cold where you are, buy a baby sleeping bag/grow-bag so that there aren't 6 blankets piled on the cot.

Most of, know that every single parent in the world fears the exact same thing when they bring home their new baby. Be vigilant and follow all the SIDS procautions like no bumpers, quilts, pillows etc...and keep a baby monitor on if that eases your mind.
My best advice is the anti-roll pillow or rolled up nappies.

Good luck and congratualtions!!!

Congratulations! I'm sure you're so proud of yourself for bringing that beautifl baby into the world. There's nothing that can compare.

Every mom freaks out about this topic. My solution was to put a baby monitor right next to baby's bed, and the receiver with me wherever I went. I could hear him breathe! It made me feel more comfortable leaving the room.

At night, I used a bassinet until he was 2 months old--this allowed easy access for nuyrsing EVERY HOUR, and I could get used to his sleeping rythyms, which empowered me.

Your baby will be fine with such a concerned mom--and remember--you know more than you think you do!

Bubs that age cannot roll over so dont stress, just dont have bedding so it can go over her head, have then tucked tightly into the cot, another idea is to use a baby sleeping bag so u dont need to use a balanket
Not sure if you have these there but in australia theres a monitor called angelcare and it detects bubs breathing and an alarm sounds if it doesnt detect breathing, it was a god send to me as i was so paranoid as well about things like that
Check mout ebay people seem to sell there old ones on there for alot cheaper than they are brand new
RELAX and enjoy ur new bub xxx

A four day old baby can't roll over yet, so no need to worry just make sure you take all bedding and stuffed animals out of the sleeping area and she should be fine.

I remember thinking the samething when I frist brought my little girl home, I would keep waking up just to make sure she was fine. Lay her own her back...and she will be fine.. babies cant roll over that early. My daughter is 4 months old and has only been rolling over for about a month..so no worries.. Good luck tonight.

Oh boy do I know the feeling! I was so worried that something was going to happen I would check my sons breathing every two minutes. The best thing you can do is make sure that there are no hazards in the crib (comforter, stuffed animals, blankets). Other then being me being sleep deprived my now 4 year old son doesn't seem to be too affected by his worry wort mother!
