Take a man and put him alone,
Put him twelve thousand miles from home.
Empty his heart of all but blood,
Make him live in sand, in mud.
This is the life I have to live,
This the soul to God I give.
You have your parties and drink your beer,
While young men are dying over here.
Plant your signs on the White House lawn;"Lets get out of Iraq"
.Use your signs and have your fun,
Then refuse to use a gun.
There's nothing else for you to do,
Then I'm supposed to die for you?
There is one thing that you should know;
And that's where I think you should go!
I'm already here and it's too late.
I've traded all my love for all this hate.
I'll hate you till the day I die.
You made me hear my buddy cry.
I saw his leg and his blood shed,
Then I heard them say, "This one's dead".
It was a large price for him to pay,
To let you live another day.
He had the guts to fight and die,
To keep the freedom you live by.
By his dying, your life he buys,
But who cares if a Soldier dies

This is a poem written by a soldier serving in Iraq right now, do you think this soldier and others like him need a break from the horror they have to witness everyday? They need to know that we are behind them and that we mourn every lost soldier too.

I hate to put words in the mans mouth, but I enterpret any contempt available in the poem to be against the Anti war movement.
"Plant your signs on the White House lawn;"Lets get out of Iraq"
.Use your signs and have your fun,
Then refuse to use a gun.""

I mean an anti war effort here in the states is exactly what the enemy wants to foster. Service people know by common sense. that if the enemy sees his plan is working he will step up his actions.

I would love it if the soldiers could come home. I would also love if when we leave Iraq that we not leave the fragile Iraqi government for the wolves to tear apart. We need to give the soldiers who have died the honor of winning and their families knowing that they didn't die in vain. I want Iraq to become something great in the Middle East. Our soldiers deserve to reap some sort of reward for their courage and great sacrifice. To leave Iraq now would make us look selfish and pathetic to the whole world. Who are we to have so much wealth, power, and ability and not use that to rid the world of terrorists who are having an effect even in our own country. I pray that God will give our soldiers strength to endure the trials they are facing daily. I also pray that their success will come quickly so that they can come home and reap the honor that they deserve. And they truly do deserve it. George Bush also deserves to be respected for standing up for what is right and believing in our armed forces. He is a true leader. I have a huge amount of respect for him not bowing to political polls, and going whichever way the wind blows. When I see his low public opinion polls it doesn't make me think that he is wrong. Instead it makes me realize that we have become a nation that the majority of people can't be honest with themselves. I believe the American people need to wake up and start believing that we can't just sit here lazily while perfectly good people in Iraq are living and dieing in fearsome conditions. If we can't help our fellow human beings then how can we say that we deserve anything that we have in this country. To answer the question in the last line of your poem. I do. I care. But I also know and understand that with great freedom comes great responsibility. Great responsibility requires great sacrifice. God bless our armed forces.

the best thing i can hope for, is for Ron Paul to be elected president, that we may fight for the right reasons in the world, I still have seen NO CONNECTION to iraq and the events of 9/11, and I think anyone with any common sense knows this in thier heart of hearts, our military is changing in dynamics, we are becoming the thing our forefather's didn't want us to be, a world police, a president should never be givin the power to start a war, that's why congress was established, war should never be started to enforce U.N. resolution's, I feel for our soldiers, I hope Ron Paul will send them home so we can protect our own boarders. should it had been england's responsibility to step in during our civil war in 1865? no, we lost many, but we worked thru it, are we saying other countries like iraq are uncapable of doing this? unfortunatly our president cares less for our soldiers then he does for his agenda's.

It's not just the Prez. Hillary and Congress say they would keep them there another 3 years minimum.
I know you need to identify, hate and blame someone, try our whole system then, not just a figurehead.
That is a brave and wonderfull soul who wrote that.

He volunteered to do this, and for this person, I give him every inch to hate.
But at least those of us safe at home, let's remember, Ain't No Body saying the troops are coming home soon.....

I knew when I went in the military that I could be sent anywhere at any time - and may be there for a long time! If your in the military with any other expectations, your there for the wrong reason!

All those percs (College money, etc.) are nice, but there's a price to pay!

It is important for the President to make policy decisions based on poems from individual soldiers.

Good thinking.

What will get him to realize this?

I think it might take a couple of rather large, shady men with a couple of bats in an empty room.

I'm sure every one knows by now that, bush does not care about any dying soul in this war.

:( While I can't help you get your message to the idxxt in the white house, I have a patriotic lyric website that gets a decent amount of hits (Average Per Day 1,120 - but mostly searching for specific lyrics - but all patriotic). I'd be happy to post your poem on it.

Letter to Mom

Dear Mom:

It's really your decision to march if you want to or not. You are the one who has to decide if what we are doing out here is right or not. My opinion is not yours.

I do, however, have things I would like for you and Grandma and everyone else at home to know. I am a United States soldier. I was sworn to defend my country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. People may not agree with the things we are ordered to do. I would like to address those people by telling them that terrorism is not only a threat to us as Americans, but to many other innocent people in the world. What type of country would we be if we didn't defend the rights and freedoms of others, not because they're Americans, but how about just because they're human? We live in a country where people feel secure with their daily lives. They do business like usual and don't worry about the thought of terrorism actually happening to them. The people of 9-11 thought the same thing. We now know that it can happen to anyone at any time. Yet as Americans we're afraid of losing our soldiers to defend our security. I can only speak for myself when I say that my life is an easy expense to ensure that my family and friends can live in peace. I strongly believe in what we are doing and wish you were here to see for yourselves the honor and privilege that American soldiers aboard this ship are feeling, knowing that we are going to be a part of something so strong and so meaningful to the safety of our loved ones. Then you would know what this potential war is about.

We will stand tall in front of terrorism and defeat it We as soldiers are not afraid of what may happen. We are only afraid of Americans not being able to understand why we are here.

I ask for your courage as Americans to be strong for us; I ask for your understanding in what we believe is right. I ask for your support in what we are sworn to do: defend our country and the life of all. We will succeed in our task and will end the threat of terrorism in our backyard. We will also end the threat of terrorism in our neighbors'. We have to remind ourselves of what this country stands for: life, liberty and justice for all. In order to maintain those rights we have to stop the threat of terrorism.

I am proud to be here. I will be coming home, but not until I know that it's going to be safe for all Americans and for everyone I love. My family is first. My country is where they live. I will defend it.

PS Mom, please send this to everyone who has a hard time understanding why we are here.

Ask the paper to put what I've said in a column so that others will know why we are here and what we are here for. I love you all and will be home soon. I left my address so that if anyone feels like writing to let me know how they feel, they can.

I have adopted Soldiers who are in Iraq, I write to them, send care packages, and they tell me that their work there is not done.

The don't want to come home until things are done.

Therefore I support our troops and what they are doing.
