Get an air compressor with a piston type pump, not one of those "oil free" rotary pumps that are directly connected to the electric motor, they are extremely loud.
You get what you pay for, but sometimes even the cheap tools last a long time. I have a bunch of Chinese generic tools that have lasted for 20 years. If you use them to make money get the good name brand stuff. Die grinders don't last long, though. I usually have two of three different types. If one goes bad, I get another one for $20.
Ingersol-Rand compressors are good, my Campbell Hausfield is 20 years old and still going.
Another consideration: it is the compressed air you use, not the compressor itself. Find somewhere to locate it out of the way, ideally behind the garage but still sheltered. Or under a workbench in the corner. Time and again I see great big compressors taking up valuable garage space. Put it outside with some plumbing on the ceiling or wherever so you have air where you need it, and hoses aren't laying across the floor. Then the noisy compressor is outside, too.
