This is the very basic part of Molecular Genetics in Biology. If you don't know your basics then you will not be able to understand the complexity that follows such as chromosome numbers (both haploid and dipliod), DNA replication (how this takes place prior to mitosis/meiosos - allowing cell divsion), Protein Synthesis... etc. These are the more complex parts of Biology, and you need to know these in order to:

1) Pass Biology
2) Gain more understanding of the function of the human body
3) Get to a higher level of Biology

Mitosis and Meiosis must be studied so that we are aware how cells reproduce. it can help us eliminate diseases or at least know their causes. the more we know the better we can understand things and help people.

Maybe if we understand it better we can develop cures to mitotic diseases (such as cancer).
