I have a GMC Sonoma truck with a 2.8 liter engine. I removed the Throttle Body Injection unit to right down the part numbers to order a rebuilt unit. I had to plug the inlet and the fuel return line to stop the flow of gas from them. The truck has not been driven for several months. Is this normal? I thought it only had pressure when the key was in the on position. If this is not normal what could cause it. I have a new fuel pump in the tank. If I had not plugged the line I feel sure that all the fuel in the tank would have flowed out.

Remove your gas cap to release the air pressure in the tank.

It's sealed and when the air warms up, it expands and pressurizes the tank a little.

The throttle body controls mostly air, not fuel. A bad O2Sensor can cause too much or too little fuel. Yes a bad regulator can put too much fuel in as well. An easy way to test this is to pull the vacuum hose off while the engine is running. If fuel comes squirting out of the top of the regulator, it's bad.

No. Although when you unhook the lines it is normal to have some pressure that will cause fuel to come out it should stop after a few seconds and not amount to more than a few ounces if everything is working normally.

not unusual to have residual pressure. with a 15+psi system..but it would not drain the tank if left uncapped.. always a good idea to cap any fuel lines left open due to fumes than can ignite easily
