Braxton Hicks contractions are just "practice" for your body. They help the uterus strengthen and learn how to contract. It helps position the baby and is practice for the baby as well. Usually, they don't really help out the cervix any, because you can start having them well before your due date. Some women have them from 5 months on, sometimes even earlier. So as far as the cervix, no help there really. Just practice. :] Hope this helped you out.

the uterus is flexing its muscles, warming up... tho they're not enough to deliver the baby, they may get the prebirth processes of effacement and early dilation of the cervix started, giving you a leg up on labor before it begins.

its positions the baby, and coordinates the muscles for labor.
