I really would like to write a book. Does anybody have any advice on how to get started?

Truly I have the best way to write a book is to simply take your idea and begin to put it down on paper(computer now). The idea is to just get writing, don't worry over the little things such as punctuation and such, that is for the final draft.
Another great way is to get books on the subject, whatever genre you're going to write in. A great catchall book is Writing Down The Bones by Natalie Goldberg.

Search words like publishing publisher, book, writing. There is a lot of useful info. Print a lot of it out and study it. Pax - C

Join a writers' group in your local community.

Start writing something to show people.

There are only about a bazillion people out there who want to write a book. But to get published you're going to need an agent, and getting one of those is the biggest hurdle you're going to have to overcome.

A writers' group will help you out there if your stuff is any good at all.

get as much education as you can. Writing is only part of the job of a writer...editing, researching, re-writing & revising... as well as proper grammer and use of punchuation. Oh, and having a spell check you can trust is important too!
