I found a bug tonight that, other than the color scheme, I would have mistken for a lady bug. I know its a beetle, but its color scheme is black with white dots instead of the ladybug's read and black. Bug lovers, any ideas?

Sptfyr, you seem to be going in the right direction, but the whole shell was black with white spots.

Close again, Sptfyr, but this one was black with white over its ENTIRE body, top and bottom.

Lady beetles actually come in a variety of colors including black. Here is a pic of a black lady beetle. You can use it for comparison and see if it is your beetle.

Well, the only other beetle I could find that is black with white spots is the longhorn beetle, but it doesn't look anything like a lady beetle.

It might be what we call around here (southern MN) a raspberry bug. If it is a little more elongated than a lady bug, that is my guess.
They are called raspberry bugs because you can often find them on-- guess what? Raspberries. Especially in August they will also show up at your picnic and get into your potato salad and corn on the cob. The sure test for raspberry bugs, however, is to put out a little beer -- they love it!

Possibly the colorado potato bettle or maybe a baby asian longhorned bettle.
