The first...a person can always get "book learning" but it's harder to tell someone who thinks they know everything that they have bad manners....they'll just rationalize it away.

It depends who's viewpoint you are looking at it from. In a society where education is highly valued, they might over look the bad manners, in that his education might advance society more than his manners ever could. Say you are looking at it from a small village in a third world country. Education really wouldn't make a bit of difference and good manners would be more highly valued, because everyone needs to get along to get the harvest in on time for the people to survive. In this case, manners would be more highly valued. Your value to a society, is based strongly on the nature of that society. So it depends.

That's easy surely - an uneducated person who has ethics. Unless they've simply swallowed some prescription! Otherwise one might deduce they have some intelligence to think for themselves, which always makes someone interesting, and reliable. The "educated" person may have some interesting knowledge but if they have a bad manner they've learned nothing important about living.

Excuse me while I play devil's advocate for a moment.

Granted, an uneducated person with a supposed "nice demeanor" may "feel" good to be around, but in the end, one will never benefit by associating with those who are intellectually inferior. It is a glaring sign of weakness.
"Your good nature disturbs me."

On the other hand, if one has a thick skin and a clever wit, an ill-mannered nature in an otherwise highly intelligent person can be overcome. After all "misery" does love company, too.

I would choose a uneducated person with a nice personality who has ethics because I just think bad manners is so rude. It doesnt matter how undeducated a person it as long as they are nice and kind to all living creatures.

Definitely the former because good manners counts in a person. Even if he is not educated but he has a good heart and with good manners plus coupled it with a right conduct. Definitely i am with him 100 per cent. What will you do with education if you cannot even educate your own self. It is therefore useless and will remain as a scratch. Character of a person is the best weapon of a person in whatever endeavours in life.

an uneducated person, handsome, with no ethics, or an eduated person with really really bad manners, u did not mention if he shud be handsome, did u ?

I wud choose a fairly educated person, not that he needs to be a doctor, engineer or a philosopher of the likes, but fairly educated, with an ugly face or a handsome face, but with ethics......i wud never want an educated person with bad manners or ethics..least of all a bad face.....
thank god u did not define too much in ur question...

good luck

One person cannot be better than another. All are equal in God's eyes.

And what education are you referring to? A person uneducated in university courses may be more educated in practical life and be able to have more exciting & fulfilling conversations and adventures.

Personally, I prefer being around pleasant people. There is always something they are knowledgable about and it doesn't take a diploma to be knowledgable.

i would choose the first one as education is meant to be a tool to help improve a person and his way of thinking. so, having the education but still having bad manners is unacceptable. There is no excuse for having bad manners.

I'd much rather spend time with the uneducated nice person.

Definetly the former........Some of the most brilliant minds in history weren't educated. I would rather be friends with a friendly but unintelligent person than a snobbish educated one.
