I don't think so. Of course one should be as considerate of others as you wish them to be of you. And perhaps "gratuitous honesty" is not called for - expressing opinions that are none of your business and not wanted (like my ex-wife!). But in any relationship, mutual respect demands mutual openness and honesty. So one may be true to oneself (that's integrity) and say something that hurts the other's feelings. But their feelings are their own responsibility - their own choice - just as yours are your own too. If they're sensible they can discuss them, calmly. If they can't, they're not worth worrying about. That's my rule, anyway. More trouble is caused in this world by people tip-toeing around each other deceitfully than is ever caused by honesty.

You assume that their is one standard set of ethics and morals that everyone should be judged by. As long as everyone has different beliefs this cannot be so. What works for a Christian person, might be totally different for someone that is an Muslim, Buddhist or Satanist. It is one of the many reasons we should give up on religions. They cause separation and division, instead of bringing people closer together. You question is too broad. Specify who's ethics and morals you are talking about, then we will be able to properly answer your question.

There is cause - effect thing that exists. . . like the force. Your actions and the reactions weigh upon you.

Ethics and morals are words used to describe how you and those around you should act as we all try to balance the force.

Ethics and Morales can also be described as a sophisticated system of feelings for what is right and wrong.

I would like to agree with Shahbarak completely, with the exception that it is possible to hurt people horribly in an immoral or unethical way, due to sheer ignorance, rather than evil intentions. After I graduated from high school, I did some things in the summer that followed and went on to college, then life. At our 20th high school reunion, I learned that a friend had been injured in an automobile accident after our graduation. He was terribly hurt that I never went to the hospital or sent him a card even. The problem was that I never knew about it, even though my omission was immoral.

Yes indeed it's unethical and immoral. Courteousness is very important to a person. This is one of the guidelines imposed here in the community. I just don't understand why some people here cannot simply follow. I am really dismayed.

One should avoid causing undo harm whenever possible. This includes emotional harm. It would be immoral to intentionally cause emotional harm to another person without good cause. Sometimes it is accidental, sometimes it is an unavoidable consequence of a necessary action, and sometimes it is for their own good. But if it is done maliciously then yes it is immoral and unethical.

The difference with hurting people's feelings is, the motive. Like they say, "The truth hurts" but eventually the truth heals. whereas If the person's intent is to humiliate and put somebody down then that's not cool
