people are disregarding the possibility that Heaven and Hell could be a state of mind...it just sounds to vague back then I guess...now they figured if these things would be places - something easier to grasp - then the best way to present them would be such...

Everyone has their own idea of what heaven/ hell looks like. ...Whether you choose to believe it, is your decision.
Streets paved with gold, and fire in hell is a popular visionary of what heaven and hell look like (which most people believe).

Hmmm. I see. you decide directly to be scandalous and rile human beings by utilising saying that heaven and hell became invented, imaginary, and which you're lots wiser than that, precise? How wonderful. properly, if human beings made up the gold streets and fiery hell, only make up some solid motives your self why they did. it is all imaginary, precise? :)

That was only in the primitive Christian religions. In actuality heaven and hell were "real places" to all known civilizations and I believe prehistoric hominids had such beliefs (Neanderthals buried their dead with flowers) about the mystery of death.
To accept a life with out mythology is to accept a life with out hope. Hope, I think, is a natural outcome of our instinct of curiosity. We explore, we find, we make up myths.
Good luck with your personal mythology, good mental health, peace and love!

well one, people didnt invent it. God made it.
BUT on a bigger scale.
Thats what people say thats not really how it is.
Heaven is perfection what ever that is to the person entering it
just as Hell is their worst nightmare all the time.

queen black, when you invented your soul, why did you give it a free will?
humans cant invent heaven or hell, they're there or they aren't.
you know the statement 'i think therefore i am'? well the same applies to our conception of God. since we can conceive of infinity, then it must exist, in the form of God.

As Believers, we believe by faith that is what God said, hey if God says it's gold, I'll go with that. Hell is hell, so be it.

Maybe because gold is a soft metal and people with Plantar Fasciitis thought they could get a bit of a break that way.
As far as the fire, that's simply because people don't like gettin' burned. Duh.
