Well I'm 5 months pregnant and this is my first child.

I am just a bit confused because I feel movement - but I don't know if it's the baby or a muscle twitching.

The reason I don't know is because when I feel it - the movement is pretty fast - like I'm gonna deliver a Rockette lol.

So I was wondering if baby kicks and elbows are typically slower and more fluid motions rather than fast thumping?

Thanks

Its actually most likely your baby - I'm not a medical physican or anything but just going off my own experiences. I am 30 weeks pregnant and my baby kicks and punches with lighting speed. Its pretty amazing considering they are in fluid, which usually slows down movements. Your baby could even have the hiccups, which could feel as though a muscle is twitching. As you get further along in your pregnancy and your baby begins to move head down, you will feel more pressure - harder kicks and even slower punches. It actually starts to hurt.

The fast thumping could mean your baby has the hiccups, mine did all the time. When your baby kicks you will know it. I was the same way...not quite sure what each movement was then all of a sudden it became clear to me and I was able to figure them out. It will be the same with you, trust me. It happens to every first time mom.

This is why most first time mothers report feeling the baby move much later than multiplt time mothers.

The first movements are often described as a fluttering movement - a bit like feeling you have a butterfly trapped in there! LOL.

Be grateful, once they take up boxing and soccer in there you will realy know about it!!

It varies. There's rapid movement - then there's the slow motion when they rub an elbow or heel across your stomach, and looks like your stomach is changing shape. Your most likely feeling the baby kick. As you get further along - you'll be able to distinguish the moves. You'll be amazed at it!

hey !
a rocket hehehe.
Im currently 5 months pregnant with a gorgeous baby boy, yesterday was the day i flet babys first movements, i would have missed it if i had not have pushed him back and than seen my belly rise. it is directly below the belly button and it is a weird tapping sensation, just like flicking yourself with your fingers slightly.
i know what you mean about the fast movements and i do believe this is the baby its very weird and happens mostely when you eat, i can happily say this is your baby ust like myne but it wont get any different until a few months/ weeks time
good luck xox

Sometimes it's really fast thumping, sometimes it's just a slow movement from one side of the belly to the other, sometimes it's just a big jab and you feel like you're going to pee! It's awesome!!! I loved feeling my babies move, it was such an incredible experience!! Enjoy it as much as possible!! You made me want to be pregnant again!! (but not now, it's to soon, lol)
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! GOD BLESS!!!!!

Someone mentioned movements that cause your stomach to change shape, that will be your baby is older, those are such fun to look at, suddenly your belly will all shift to one side, awwww!!! Sometimes they will hurt, specially when they hit your ribs, but that's later on!!
OMG! How cute!!

you are so cute!! The first movements kinda feel like bubbles or butterflys flying around they are very fast movements and very light.. Once the baby runs out of room and gets bigger the movements are more like slow kicks or you can even feel them roll.. Its amazing isnt it!! You are feeling the baby!!!!
