I walk home so what does it mean when someone honks at you from their car?

1.They're trying to get your attention 2. They are paying you a compliment of sorts that is akin to a "wolf whistle" 3. They want you to notice them back.
My advice:
Don't encourage them in any way. Ignore them & go on your merry way! Just because someone likes the way that you look doesn't mean that you are required to respond, especially when you are alone & walking. Hopefully you have a cell phone with you.
Be certain that you are in a safe location & that someone knows where you are walking in case something happens to you.
Perhaps it would be wise to get the license plate number of the vehicle, especially if this is an everyday happening.
Call someone on your cell phone & rattle the License plate number off to them & have them write it down.
It could be considered a form of harrassment if they stop their car & accost you by forcing their unwanted attention on you.
Kind of reminds me of the words to the song "Pretty Woman"
About the longing some guys have about wanting a pretty woman to turn around and smile at them.
Unfortunately even a pleasant friendly smile can be mistaken as a sign of encouragement by some people. They think it gives them the permission to make advances toward someone who was only being pleasant & not actually showing interest.

They think you're cute, and hope you look at them when you hear the horn. It's a guy thing. I have never known a woman to do that, not unless she knows the guy.

They probably think you're attractive... those people are @ssholes though. Never get in their car if they ask you to. Instead call the cops.

Either they're warning you of their arrival (like you're too close to them) or you're a hottie and they're warning you of their arrival!! haha

I hate when people do that, it makes me so mad. I guess it means that maby they thought they new you or they think you have a nice behind or they are just *** holes.

either they think your hot or they think they know you in some way so they want to get your attention.
