Can the top of fresh pinapple be planted and grown as a plant?

Just cut the top off and am wondering if it could be planted and grown

yes, just plant it in a pot of dirt and water it. It will grow very slowly.

Yes, although I haven't tried it.
Place it on sandy soil in a pot.
Water soil well, but not plant.
Keep it in bright sun, indoors.
It's a bromeliad (sp?).
