You sound like my son. He has a real interest in history and so for pleasure he is doing more reading of historical novels and taking a couple of good classes at his HS. You could ask teachers for more challenging assignments too. One thing I learned as I got my two Master's Degrees was that a lot of people fall into your category but once they get to college they struggle because they now have to study or get lost in the shuffle of the "ordinary" student. Why not try tutor others and teach them strategies that have helped you - pick a middle or elementary student and help them. It would at least give you something to do in all your free time.

The hardest part of homework is getting started like a lot of things. Set your goal on just creating an studying atmosphere and opening up the first book. The rest will fall in place eventually. You're not alone.

i know just how you feel because i am also "smart" but very lazy. What i try to to do is to concentrate on one task, then move on. once you get over the procrastination, you'll get into the habbit of getting things done. and just think about it this way: if i do it all now, i can relax the rest of the evening, plus, if you study every night, you wont be up all night the day before you test cramming. hope this helps!

Maybe it is just not challenging enough for you? Boring? My husband was this way too. You really have to find a way to work thru it.
