When people cannot find answers to their questions, or are out to make excuses for their failures, or successes, or are out to blame someone for their indiscretions, then they find religion.Religion is in the business of selling solace for peoples miseries for a lot more money than we like to imagine.

It's all about perception. Your post is an example of the lack of respect for the beliefs of others that is so prevalent on Answers.
YOU may view religion as 'being under control', but, there are millions and millions of people who absolutely don't feel that way. Just because you view religion as being controlled, doesn't make it so.
Why is it SO difficult for some people to have respect for the beliefs of others? Because you don't agree with someone else doesn't give you the right to ridicule and insult that person.

No. Surprisingly, many of these people you are referring to as under the control of religion actually enjoy more freedom than the people who are always dong their "own-thing" and pursuing pleasure for the mere sake of pleasure. Hard to believe, isn't it?

It doesn't amaze me, since it's been like that forever.
Although I pity them (because "the smart ones" suck their blood dry in the "name of the Lord"...), I think that such control is necessary, because the flip side of it would be the need to have a humongous police force to keep them in check.
