Not all microbes will grow on nutrient agar. Some require specific nutrients and conditions not included in nutrient agar. Bacteria sampled from natural environments are likely to grow on nutrient agar. However, bacteria sampled from extreme environments such as high salt environments (obligate halophiles) will not grow on nutrient agar. Obligate parasites may not grow on nutrient agar either.
