To literally answer your question, the benefit is knowing how to drive a car.

Being able to drive to work with out taking a buss? There are no benefits at all only costs. It is a Privilege to drive... Not a Right to drive... So every one will be hand out for your money. Sales Tax, Licence plates and car insurance never ends. And $3.00 gallon gasoline.
I use my car at the road racing track and drive to and from work $32,000 car = $430 a month and $100 a month insurance and $100 gasoline $20 Tires oil every month?. When cars get old there value drops each year and mile. In the early 20th century Cars used to be only for wealthy people and now it seems as if it is getting that way again. And public transportation in many areas is a joke.

there is a lot more to driving a car than just steering.. probably one of the most dangerous things that you will ever do is drive a car.. you need to know what safe speed is and how to handle the car in all traffic situations.. while instructors cannot train you in all those situations..they do teach the basics..they are an absolute must.. here is just one example of what you most certainly will face when you drive on the highways.. a wolf pack.. do you know what a wolf pack is? do you know what to do when you do encounter one?.. well you had better learn..because if you don't..you could get yourself killed. Driving lessions are a must..the rest you learn by doing.. but it you don't understand the basics.. you could get yourself into serious trouble.. it is not just about learning to drive..it is also about surviving..

well for starters the benifits are endless... namely freedom to go where you want, when you want...

the skills come with practice, stalling the car and learning to change gears are common problems when learning (if you opt for a manual), but generally it's not that scary.

find some one with patience and a license who is willing to teach you, a parent or friend who has their car insured for young drivers (if you are). clock up plenty of driving hours and grab a few professional lessons from a driving school to polish your new found skills.

You'll be on the road and free to roam!!
