I had a question that is driving me crazy so I was wondering if
you can help me. This is a cut and paste of the post I was
trying to post.

Hi guys just got a 250 and was confused on properly gauging oil
through the window dealie.

In the morning (im in california so its never cold) when I start
up the bike and let it idle for a few minutes the oil doesn't
even show in the window.

Yet after I drive it for a few minutes it then shows in the
window and when I shut off the big it then is almost all the way
full up to the top of the round window.

Yes I am holding it level also.

My question is, a. IS the oil level fine or b. It is full or
c. it needs oil.

Also I would be curious as to how you guys check your oil level.

Thanks for the board its got great info! I'll add my photo of
my bike soon

Start the bike and let it warm up for a few minutes.
This will circulate the oil throughout the engine, fill the oil filter and fill any oil galleys in the cylinder head.
Turn off the engine and let it sit for a few minutes.
This will let any excess oil drain down to the bottom of the crankcase.
Check the oil level with the bike straight up and down (as if you were sitting on it).
The oil should cover 3/4 of the oil level sight glass.

If you were to go for a ride and want to check the oil, let the engine cool down to get the proper reading.
