Do you agree that Svidrigailov is Raskolnikov's "alter ego"?

And if so, why do you feel this way?

Yes and no.

Reasons yes: Raskolnikov was poor and Svidrigailov rich.

Reason no: They both liked to "perform random acts of charity"... Raskolnikov donated his money to the Marmelades and so did Svidrigailov. According to wikipedia, Svidrigailov was more of an alter ego to Sonya. She was redeemed but he wasn't. Also, both men had strong feelings for Dunya...R. didn't want his sister to marry Peter just for his benefit and S. was obsessed with her.
