I've been in one emotionally abusive relationship and one potentially abusive relationship. The potentially abusive one was by a guy who hit me. He only hit me once, and that's all it took for me to leave. The emotionally abusive relationship was one that I was smart enough to get out of alive. Sex was part of the job description. He held a loaded gun to my head to teach me to not be afraid of them. He tried to kill someone in front of me. He kept a loaded gun on him at all times. I had the sense to break up with him in a public place when I knew he'd be unarmed.

Yes I have, and it was both. When it was verbal, I tried to stick by his side because he said he wanted to get help. But when it turned physical, I got rid of him. My daughter and I are much happier now :)
