Well, as others have suggested... it's best to look at different sides of issues. Google will help in showing many different sources.
I'm a Libertarian, so my favorite sources are not 'main stream media" and tend to lean a bit left, but not extreme. Here are some I use:
-- TruthOut - Many links to articles on broad variety of subjects:
http://www.truthout.org/
-- LINK TV: Television Without Borders
http://www.linktv.org/
-- Democracy Now! - 1 hr. new program carried on public radio & satellite TV. Website carries transcripts.

-- World-news Independent Media Sources:
http://freepage.twoday.net/
-- Articles from Ali Fadhil and Dahr Jamail, Independent Journalists in Iraq:

If you're unsure of your own political position, or just want to see where you stand in comparison to US Candidates:

Don't just take information from one source. You will have to use multiple sources. It will take work, but if you really want to be educated about politics you can. I educate myself about the viewpoint of conservatives and liberals on a given issue, do additional research on the issue, contemplate it, and decide where I stand. Most of the time, I agree with the conservative viewpoint, therefore, I am a conservative.
By the way...knowing history is VERY important. If you want to understand the present and future, you must understand the past.

Elude is right....Start reading, and using Google.
Remember to add a healthy dose of common sense to the answers you get.
Reading a few books on American History and Government would help.
Read the Constitution. Many quote it here, yet most seem to have never read it. Take you 1/2 hour...
