Yes, smoking used to be socially acceptable and people did it everywhere.

The percentage of people who smoked was higher than those who didn't.

I remember as a child the movie theatre would be filled with smoke. People used to smoke on buses, trains, elevators, shops, anywhere you can think of.

My mother (I live in Australia) had surgery in the 1970's and I remember her smoking in her hospital bed!

Unbelievable, isn't it?

Into the seventies, people smoked on buses, trains, and planes. Guests smoked on talk shows. Celebrities smoked on game shows. Smoking didn't become socially unacceptable until the eighties.

Yes, hard as it may be to believe today, people used to smoke on buses, and airliners, and movie theaters, and anywhere else you might care to mention. They even had ashtrays on the back of the seats in buses and trains and airliners back in the day.

Yes people use to smoke everywhere. In the movies, airplanes, grocery stores. Even in their offices at work. I think all of this ended in the early 90's.

I remember people lighting up right after take off in the late 80's. Most people lit up right after take off when the "no smoking" light went off. While the plane was still climbing there would be this haze spreading throughout the plane.
