It had everything to do with hard work, long hours and staying focused on my goals.
I went to college while my girls were in school. I worked, in the evenings and days when I could take my girls with me. Eventually, I was able to start my own company and that led to my success. However, it took me 16 yrs. to complete my education, around rearing my children and running my company! Even so, I would not change a thing as my girls now have a very strong work ethic and stick to their goals!
So, yep. a lot of hard work!

All success is from luck. If somebody tells you it was their skill, ask them how they got that skill. If they tell you it was from studying, good for them, but......ask them where they got that opportunity and desire to study from? You see, it goes on and on. How did they be born where they were? How did they get the parents they have? And so on and so on.
Generally speaking, those who move up the corporate ladder are either relations of someone already there or huge socialites who probably are gonna ignore their families quite a bit to try and "make it" in the business world. This goes for men, women etc. It is a very competitive world out there and that world wants all your energy or you get swallowed up by another who can do that.
Education does not cut it. Being moral does not cut it. Dedication to success, 12+ hours a day, usually 7 days a week for 40 years does. That is a tough road to hoe for most people.

Luck..everyone successful has had luck in life
Work: No one who is successful on their own is lazy! They work their butts off and have paid their dues
Opportunity: These people recognized opportuinity when they saw it and took the chance...most do not.
right place/right time....back to that luck bit, but then again, we have all been there, took the wrong fork and turned up our noses at true opportunity...or were afraid to put it all on the line for a chance at success....most people take the sure thing, too afraid to lose security. That is why there are so few rich and so many middle class. The one thing you will find in common with successful people..they took a chance, were willing to put their entire being into it, regardless of what others said, no matter who said they would fail...

Doing very hard work, sacrificing things in the early years to save for the later years. Paying things ahead or paying off when the money was available just to get out from under. Saving every nickel here and there and not being a frivolous spender. Honesty and integrity with the clients we gained through out the years. Success takes looking ahead to the future and trying to stay ahead of the downsides of business.

Opportunity yes. Luck, No. Don't believe in luck even tho I use the phrase "good luck" often. I worked hard for every promotion I ever got. I went to military schools to make myself a better person and better leader. I never asked my men to do anything I wouldn't do. I didn't demand respect, I earned it. Success can be measured in many ways. One of those ways is to be satisfied with what you've done with your life. And I am satisfied that I did my very best in every situation. I'm now retired 3 times. And I never once kissed anyones behind.

Hummm, success and how did I gain it? Depends what you are talking about, as far as career... never was a ladder climber. But as far as my own way of dealing with this crazy world, it took lots of experience, learning from my own mistakes and therapy!
