There are basically three kinds of audiobooks:

1. Books on CD
2. Downloaded Books
3. Tape cassette books

If you download books from iTunes or audible.com, you have to listen to them using your PC or Mac if you don't have an iPod or MP3 player.

I'd suggest getting your books on CD until the day you do have the iPod or MP3, since different downloads are available based on the equipment you are going to use to listen. Whereas, with CDs, when the time comes you can still download them.

I listen to books now because I have been ill and cannot hold a hard copy book for a long period of time. That said, I find I really enjoy listening to books. It is a very enjoyable experience. Even my dogs tend to relax more when I'm sitting back with my headphones on.

Whichever way you choose to go, happy reading.

P.S. By the way, I have had very good luck purchasing used and like new CDs from the amazon merchants. It's a very good way to get books cheap. Also, many libraries carry audiobooks now.
