my husband's steel-toes are soaked and he needs them for work tomorrow. he wants to use the clothes dryer, but i think it will damage the boots and perhaps the dryer! HELP!

the boots will break the coating off the steel inside the dryer

then the inside of the dryer will get rust spots

then anything you dry in there any time afterward will get those rust spot copies

use a small fan lay the boots on their sides

loosen the laces so the tongue of the boot will hang out

let the fan blow into the boots for a couple hours

then flip the boots over to the other side and give it a couple more hours

Normally you'd stuff them with newspaper to absorb the moisture, replacing often.....but since time is paramount, I'd use the hair dryer technique above and then oil down the leather quite well before he puts the boots on tomorrow.

If your job requires that you wear something other than the ordinary uniform items found in Clothing Sales, your unit will issue it. If it wears out, as work boots often do, they will issue new ones. Your friend does not need to buy new steel toes, she needs to talk to her supervisor and have new ones issued.
