I just can't believe the things some people do with babies. Giving tea to a 2mth old?? Yes, it is very bad to give honey to your baby. It can be deadly! Here's part of an article on infant botulism that describes the symptoms to watch out for in the coming days, see the link below for the full article:
''The first symptom of infant botulism is constipation (which is also a common benign finding in many infants). This can appear 3 to 30 days following ingesting spore-containing honey (The AAP Red Book, 2000). Typically, the parents then observe increasing listlessness, decreased appetite, and weakened cry over the next several days. Nursing mothers often report new engorgement. Sometimes this is the full extent of the disease. If the disease progresses, however, the child moves less and less and might begin to drool from the mouth. Gagging and sucking reflexes diminish. Loss of previous head control is also an important sign. Complete respiratory arrest can occur either suddenly or gradually.
If an otherwise healthy baby develops constipation, followed by weakness and difficulty in sucking, crying, or breathing, then infant botulism should be considered the most likely diagnosis until proven otherwise. ''
I had my husband giving our daughter all sorts of things as a baby, even though I asked him many times not to. He didnt see the problem with 'a taste' as he put it. Giving a 4mth old a spoonful of jelly when they are suppose to be 100% breastfed is annoying to a watchful mother!!
I really hope nothing happens to your baby, and odds are on your side. But show your mother this article and tell her the dangers of giving your baby ANYTHING other than formula/breastmilk at this age.

A one month old baby should never be given honey. Honey can cause serious illness in babies. They shouldn't have that until they are 2 years old. You need a better doctor than this - get a second opinion! At one month of age, a baby's digestive tract has not developed far enough to digest regular foods and you should not be doing anything but breastfeeding and alternating infant Motrin drops and Tylenol drops. Rooibos tea is effective and safe when given in a bottle with warm breastmilk or formula. However, no no on the honey - it is very rare for a baby to get the flu at this age. There may be allergies or a different issue you're dealing with - I think you need a more thorough and concerned pediatrician who will consider things more carefully. No doctor I know would ever recommend tea sweetened with honey. You definitely don't want to give them tea that has caffiene in it because their heart is not ready to handle the effects of caffiene yet.

Honey is said to cause infant botulism. The thing is that has NEVER been proved but to be on the safe side beekeepers have elected to place a warning on the containers. I would not worry about it. Just tell your mother nicely not to do it again until your baby is older.

i knew a family who would dip thier finger in coffee & feed it to thier little ones!said it "kept them quiet,& they loved it"~ how stupid!
on the back of honey it tells not to give to infants, under a certain age..but apparanty if the baby hasnt got stomach cramps or anything, she got away w/it. I wouldnt do it again, & tell her "now mom, i don't want to hurt your feelings but i dont want that to happen again, okay?" in nice way., so it wont hurt your relationship w/her.
as far as the camomile tea, it's good for people , however for a baby,,it'd have to be pretty weak, i see her point, cause it's highly recommended among herbs.
There are meds out there, but the dr. has to prescribe them.
Have lots of fun w/ your new baby & congrats!

Giving birth to a new life is indeed a blessing which almost every woman would wish to have. How to get pregnant naturally https://tr.im/LGfwD
Enjoying the feeling of motherhood and raising a family would surely be a couple’s dream. Some get it naturally, while for some others things don’t seem to work as they desire. These reasons which stop a women from conceiving can be due to either physical reasons or truly physiological.

I've always heard that honey isn't good for a baby because it's one of those foods (like peanuts and other allergens) that could bring on allergies. A long time ago before there was all the research there is now, mothers gave their babies honey. My mother and my mom-in-law did it with us. It's always wise to consult with your Pediatrician. But dont' freak out. It's ok. Oh! and by the way, your baby CAN drink tea and juices. I have a 5 month old and since he was a month old i've given him tea for his gas (chammomile, mint and boldo) and soy juice.

The reason why a baby under a year should not have honey is that there is a risk for botulism. He'll probably be fine, the risk is very low. Just let your mom know, if you haven't already, that it is not recommended for babies.

My mother put peppermint extract in my daughters bottle, its like 90 percent alcohol and we are Mormon. It was horrible and I was so worried. She kept throwing up and was really sleepy. My moms excuse was that my baby's stomach was cramping and should couldn't just watch her suffer and that her mom use to use it and yadayadayada. I took her to the emergency room and the Dr. told me that the peppermint numbed the throat so she couldn't keep her food down.
Every thing turned out all right. My mom learned her lesson. If I were you I would make it clear to your mom that she shouldn't try any old wife tail remades or give your child any thing with out your approval. I know she meant well.

First smack your mother in the head. Babies DO NOT need tea, or juice, or water - EVER. Secondly, NEVER, EVER EVER give honey under a year old for the risk of botulism. Personally, I'd check with either your local poison control (for lack of a better idea) or his pediatrician ASAP.
Chances are, a very small amount isn't the end of the world, but with a baby his age, I never mess around.
