Ok, so I recieved money orders for a company that I was suppose to cash and send them the money. Stupid me, I did, but I didn't cash in my bank account, because I don't have one, I cashed at a check cashing place. Well now I'm getting calls from them telling me it was fake and that they are going to file a police report and they want their money. I don't have the money anymore, otherwise I would give it to them. I had no idea that this was a scam...I don't know what could happen to me? Could I go to jail? Or what? It's my understanding that these check cashing places are suppose to call and verify everything before they cash it...if they had done this in the first place, all this could have been avoided. And please don't berate me for being stupid and doing this, I'm doing a pretty good job of that myself. Call it being naive. Any Lawyers out there that can tell me what can happen?

The lady came to my house and I had to call the police to get her off my property, she was harrassing me. I explained to them what had happened and they both said that there's alot of this going on and that I'm kinda the innocent party. They told me that she was going to have to file a police report in here area (where the place is located). So I kinda already told the police the whole thing and showed them emails. I'm just really scared, because I can't afford to pay this back nor to go to jail.

OK - you got scammed. I would take the first step and contact the police first. Let them know you were a victim of a scam and would like to file a complaint against the people sending you money orders.

Bottom line, you were naive and got scammed, but they're supposed to pay for it? That's what is sounds like.

OK. You owe the check cashing place some money. Work it out with them. Can you pay them back over the next 3 months or so? Suggest a repayment plan to them that you can afford.

Sorry you got suckered. But at least you'll never fall for that again.

Yes it IS a scam. DO NOT attempt to cash the checks and DO report it to the postal authorities. .

Always Remember: All spam emails are scams.
my Advice: Don't deal with anyone from a foreign country or Accept or cash checks from strangers and never use wire/bank transfer services.. you risk losing your $$ and your mind.
