Let me break out some numbers for you. The "NEW" Big East was formed 2 years ago, so I compiled the non-conference records for each of the 6 BCS conferences over that time span. That is to say, how well each of the 6 major conferences have done vs. the other major conferences.
Here goes:
Pac 10 15-10
SEC 20-17
Big East 19-19
Big 10 16-17
ACC 19-23
Big 12 14-17
The Big East looks to be doing just fine by these numbers. How have they done against non BCS conferences, you might ask? 21-2 over the last 2 years. That is a combined 40-21 non conference mark.
Yeah... I think they deserve a bid.

The BCS should be eliminated from any consideration because it is only an attempt by the self-proclaimed "power conferences" to make sure they get almost all the money available from major bowls. Anyone who has anything to do with a poll, whether asking the questions, answering them or reporting on them before Thanksgiving should be tied to a couple of cinderblocks and dropped into very deep water.
Then we can base everything on what the teams actually DO instead of on some secret group's opinion of what they do. Just think! Sports radio would actually have to talk about sports and not about what other people think about sports!
By the way, yes, the Big East was 5-0 in bowl games. 'nuff said.

Richard C gave a perfect answer. That being said remember things are cyclical, each conference will have its ups and downs there are 3 main reasons the Big East usually is the 6th best BCS conference.
1- Its smaller than the rest of the conferences, having fewer teams means you have less of a chance of producing a legit BCS team.
2- Recruiting base: I know I'll catch flack for this but by far the most HSFB talent comes out of California, Florida, and Texas, their are more athletes (numerically speaking) in these three states playing football than in others, and the warm weather helps. As it happens the SEC, ACC, BIG12, and PAC 10 are in these states. Yeah, Ohio and Pennsylvania probably are the next two best HSFB states, but you have to fight with the BIG 10 for those kids.
3-The ACC raided your traditional football powers, adios Miami and BC.
That being said I still think that WV is legit and deserves their high ranking, I thikn Louisville would be top 3 in any conf. and USF and Rutgers are both top 25 material this year

No, they're not a joke anymore, they are a legitimate BCS conference with 2 top ten teams, in Louisville and West V. and the up and coming Rutgers in the top 25 poll. The Louisville Cardinals and West V. Mountaineers are a dangerous team, that's gonna threaten for the BCS title games, especially with their easy schedule. Both team could run the table and make the BCS title games. They are no longer the jokes of the big BCS conference team.

Pitt, Syracuse, and WVU left the Big East. They were really the living members of the conference. The AQ status will be dropped soon. All the rest will leave and the Big Easy will no longer exist for football. Just Basketball.

Until there is a 16-team playoff - regardless of conference - based on a BCS-styled rating formula, there is no validity to the Bowl Season as it is played.

They have three good teams in Rutgers, West Virginia, and Louisville and a few times that could be good in Cincinnati, Connecticut, and Syracuse. Every conference should get a BCS bid.
