If you're looking strictly for Elves, try the Shannara series by Terry Brooks. The first book is The Sword of Shannara. Read several of these and liked them a lot.
There is also the Elfquest series, which started off ok. Never got to book two.
Anne McCaffrey's Pern series is excellent. And as mentioned above, many concepts in Eragon are stolen straight from Anne McCaffrey's work.

There is another dragon book called Eldest by the same author so yeah..........lolz I've never seen the movie but I've read the books the second is pretty good
