They are almost 50 yrs old. They are in very good condition but need to be cleaned and need to be put into there new wall display so I figured I would clean them during the move.

I would wipe them with a lint-free, dry cloth. If they still need cleaning, I would try to steam them from the back side carefully. First try as small of an area as possible to make sure the fabric can handle the moisture and heat. If you steam them from the back without touching the steamer to the fabric, the steam should go through the fabric and "lift" the soil from the ribbon. Since I do not know the fabric content, I think you need to approach the cleaning very carefully. If it's just dust, try a vacuum over the top surface, or a hair dryer from the back. This may be all you need..

I'd guess a very very gentle dunk in a detergent filled warm water mess. Just gently - froth them about for a couple of minutes then rinse under cool water.

Good luck - they sound lovely and well worth preserving.
