There is no ideal or safe number.It is whatever you feel like doing when you want to do it. If you are in a relationship then I know what I prefer to do-and it is not to mastrbate.
It will not do you any harm and it may be beneficial in protecting the prostate gland against malignancy when you are older

Do it often, whenever you feel like it. Once a day is fully normal. Obviously, you don't want this to be your only outlet, but if it is all you have then there is no harm in it at all.
It is the ultimate definition of "safe sex", too!

Of the guys that masturbate, they usually do so on average of once a week. Some do more, some do less.
96% of guys under age 20 jack off, and do so on average of once a week - some more, some less.
Half of married men rarely do it. The other half of married guys masturbate, but usually do so only once a week. Only 2% of all married guys masturbate more than once a week.
If you are masturbating more than you think you should - look at your social life - do you have one? If not, you need to make more friends, other than your hand.
If you are injuring yourself (foreskin, etc.) by the frequency or intensity of masturbation - you need to cut back.
The book Every Man's Battle, a Christian guide to sexual purity, says that masturbation is caused by impure thoughts and impure eyes. And, if you can keep your mind and eyes away from impurity - you will find that you will naturally masturbate less and less.
So, it will be easier to maintain a "safe number" if you refrain from watching porn, looking at smut on TV, and babe watching on the beach.

I do it usually once a day, sometimes twice, somtimes I don't do it at all. I have a steady girlfriends and we have sex, but it's much more efficient.
