You have to look at the person and ask is this person happy? A true rich person is one that is rich in life and not in possessions or monetary worth. So many people have everything but are not happy. They will search and search for something that will give them that true blissful happiness. Having your finances in order and being able to buy things that are needed without worrying about them is necessary, but what do "wealthy" people have that you would want?

From a strictly financial standpoint there is no way to truly tell. The bum on the street wasn't born there. He/she got there through the circumstances of life and the choices they made. I make it a habit to listen to anyone who speaks to me as a lesson learned is not necessarily better when learned first hand. If you learn from other's mistakes it will save you lots of grief in the long run. Usually one can tell within a few words if someone has any valuable knowledge to impart. Rich, is not limited to financial wealth as others have mentioned.

impossible with out looking at their balance sheet!!! example you see a lot of farmers who have say 640 acres fully pay for and most of their equipment worth more than they owe and still driving a old beat up pickup -- not that they could not afford a new truck -- but why when it will just get beat up. and on the otherr have you see a person living in 1/4 million dollar home with pool -- 4 car garage with new cars in each one and when the mail man comes it takes a truck to haul all of the cc and othe bills!!!

You can't really. Many rich people got that way by being frugal with their money, and remain that way.
