it's only on the QB's helmets..to identify them as having a radio receiver in it...only one is allowed out there at a time. If a 2nd QB goes out there to play WR or RB on a play, he has to use a different helmet

a mike in the helmet the dot lets the officials know rule is only one mike euipped helmet on the field at a time

It means that the QB can listen to the offensive coordinators calls. He has a ear peice in his helmet.
