I swore I would never tell my kids "because I said so thats why". I have found that with 3 kids that comes out quite often.

I am completely different from the way my parents parented me.

For example: My dad told me that the problem with modern day woman is that they get ideas in their head that don't belong there and I should make sure that my house is clean and that my husbands dinner is on the table when he gets home.

ME!!! My children will not be a servant in their own home. My children will attend college and be smarter than any man out there and live their lives for themselves! Which is what I teach them. They can be anything they want to be espcially someone in a good high respectable job position.

I vowed I would never say anything to belittle my children and destroy their spirit . I've kept that promise because I had enough of it as a child and it had lasting effects but eventually I got over it .

Hitting,and I never have. I threaten to withdraw something positive,like a favorite show. Or cancel an outing.

I vowed that I wouldn't say, "wait until your father gets home", to my children. I stuck by that!

I vowed I would never be abusive and I wasn't but it skipped a generation and my daughter is abusive to her kids. *sigh*
