Absolutely agree.--- Even Thomas Jefferson knew that when he said “The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then.”

This means that one cares about how the country is being led. Without dissent and disagreement we could as well have a dictatorship as there would not be allowed any dissent or disagreement at all. Fearless leader is never wrong and those who even whisper such things are never heard from again.

Partly.

The life blood of human freedom is accountability. No one has yet designed a human society where there are no power relations, but in a free society all exercise of power is accountable. In a democracy, governments are ultimately accountable to the people as a whole.

The freedom to dissent and disagree (and the mechanisms which allow such discussion such as a free media) are central to that accountability.

absolutely! without dissent we become a one-party state and those in power tend to be more corrupt and autocratic-it is not only the right of a citizen to voice dissent when the government screws up, it's the RESPONSIBILITY of a citizen to do so! i've had about all i can take of the current 'if you disagree with the administration, you hate america and love terrorists' crapola! it's a crock and a lie-those who espouse that philosophy have more in common with the 'islamofascists' than they are capable of understanding...i have no use for 'my way or the highway' thinkers

Absolutely agree however, I wouldn't go too far down that road about life's blood. Part of the problem with politics today is; people seem to think life's blood with respect to disagreement equates to hate.

Agree.
Without the freedom to dissent & disagree we're just cattle.
Having said that, even cattle can respond when pushed too far....they stampede.
Something that buckaroo in the oval office should remember.

I agree...if we never questioned or disagreed with the government they would just do whatever they wanted to do.

Oh, I agree. But that doesn't mean human freedom can't get 'blood poisoning' if you follow the extended metaphor.

Dissent and disagreement is one thing. Pissing and moaning for terrorists is another. Some people don't know where to draw the line.
