For Americans sitting in cinemas watching the summer's fun movies, such as The Simpsons and Hairspray, the trailer for Lions for Lambs is jarring and unexpected. It opens with a moody shot of the Washington Memorial, and shifts to a series of quick-fire scenes about President George Bush's "war on terror".
Lions for Lambs, scheduled for release in the US on November 9, is not a documentary nor an art house film nor even a Michael Moore-style piece of agitprop. It is mainstream Hollywood, starring Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep and Robert Redford, who also directed it. It is one of about a dozen Hollywood films due for release or being made that deal with America divided, the national debate over Iraq and Afghanistan, and other consequences of 9/11.

So what's new. They've been doing it sense WW II and it only proves they are whining liberals in Hollywood.

BTW, your guardian tabloid is no better then the Enquirer, total BS.

In my opinion, the Oscars do not as a rule reflect a movie's greatness; a film wins for a myriad of reasons. Sometimes it's to pay back a director who lost the previous year or to honor a newbie; sometimes it's to make a statement; sometimes it's backlash against the amount of drek that had been produced that year. How else to explain why "Rocky" beat out "Network," "Taxi Driver" and "All the President's Men?" I pay more attention to the Golden Globes; they're not voted on by Academy members.

Redford. Yeah. All my money says each and every one these films will have a liberal spin on them. I think the war is a massive clusterfvck but I doubt there will be an ounce of objectivity in any of these films.

My thoughts are America is a much worse place to be in than it was 8 years ago, this wasn't necessary and we did it to ourselves. Eventually the population will figure out that it doesn't ahve to be this way, I haven't seen the trailer but if the movie helps to accomplish this, then it will be good.

Actors need to keep their mouth shut in politics unless they have actually served as a politician.

Tom Cruise is a scientologist.

Enough said.

My thought is that in America people can make whatever movies they want. If someone has an opinion about something they are allowed to voice it/ make it into a major motion picture whether others agree with it or not.
